DESCRIPTION:
(Running time: 19.5 hours, 14 cassettes) --Rob McDonald. But there's a certain warmth and believability to King's voice--after all, it's his book and he is a middle-aged bestselling novelist--that jive well with Noonan's character. But there's hope in Kingsville, as this struggling writer falls in love with a young widow named Mattie and her 3-year-old psychic daughter, Kyra. When 40-year-old bestselling novelist Mike Noonan returns to his lakeside cabin to process his wife's death, he finds the place a beacon for nightmares and ghoulish visits. If you've never heard King speak, be warned: 19-plus hours of his western Maine, nasal-drenched tones may be more than some listeners can bear. No longer content to be the prolific provider of text,
A very slow read I have found this book really hard to get started with. The story line is good but not great. So far I have reached chapter 8 and found this is a very slow read compared to many other books of Mr. Kings. Like a page or two if I am lucky in the evening. Hoping it picks up and fast.. The Chills are From the People W. Carlin Yes, there are ghosts in this book (some malevolent, some less so), but the real chills are from the people in the book who are not dead. And even though the story eventually hinges on supernatural phenomena, King's writing is at its best when he focuses in on the people at the center of the story. Alternately heart-breaking and uplifting, the way he describes the emotions of the central characters has hung . Very Good Very good but too long. His character development is fantastic as usual. The plot is good & the action is pretty fast. However, there is too much description of place, things, & unknown things. I read it a long time ago & this time, although I didn't remember a lot of it, I skipped quite a bit. It ended okay - it just took too long to get there.
His nights are plagued by vivid nightmares of their house by the lake. What are the forces that have been unleashed here -- and what do they want of Mike Noonan?.
