It's ok, but I am new to painting Amazon Customer As a new, but interested,acrylic painting student, I have little knowledge of what makes paintings 'work'. This book is 'information dense' and the logical extensions or implications of the writer are not always apparent to me. Specifically, 'composition' seems to be lightly covered. By that I mean explaining how an observer's eye skips over a picture - the painter using arcs, or figures to 'point' the eye of the observer around the scene. As a complete 'newbie', it met my needs, but sketchily and doesn't stand alone. It needs a good teacher's e. Elegant, simple, visual understanding of artistic composition. mmk I am constantly searching for better ways to understand photographic composition, not only so that I can take better photographs in the field/in camera but so that I can make good editing decisions in the digital darkroom. So when a photographer recommended this book I jumped on the opportunity and I'm very happy that I did.
