DESCRIPTION:

Having covered Apple as an editor since the 1990s and interviewed Ive on numerous occasions, Kahney offers a unique perspective on how this man designs killer products that attract fanatically loyal customers.. The best-selling author of Inside Steve's Brain profiles Apple's legendary chief designer, Jonathan Ive.Jony Ive's designs have not only made Apple one of the most valuable companies in the world; they've overturned entire industries, from music and mobile phones to PCs and tablets. Unlike his former boss and creative partner Steve Jobs, Ive shuns the spotlight. But for someone who has changed the world as much as he has, little is widely known about Apple's senior vice president of industrial design. Naturally shy and soft-spoken, he lets his work speak for itself and concerns himself only with his craft. In the first book to focus on Ive, Leander Kahney offers a rigorous and systematic examination of a remarkably creative career and provides insight into the principles underlying Ive's success

J. M. Nye said The Genius of Apple and Jony Ive's Significant Contribution to its Success. This book is a good companion to Isaacson's Steve Jobs. The book is well written and clearly reveals Apple's superior design culture. One that is admired and respected by other designers the world over. Interestingly it also touches on the influence good design has on those who purchase Apple products. The idea that people can be educated by influence through good product design is an interesting one. The book also describes in some detail how important good design education is to the manufacturing industry, and goes on to outline concept development in one of the most cutting edge manufacturers in. A real page turner! Oliver Twist Like any excellent novels, this book is so impossible to put down! I am more than fascinated by his approach to the design process and the influences placed upon him as he grew up and studied the industrial design. In addition, it is more than a biography about Jony Ive; it also highlighted the tumultous challenges and hurdles of shifting the end result from engineering perspectives to design process as well as the difficult environment at Apple when the engineers and executives had a final say in the design process. The book described the exacting attention to the detail in his design process and e. "Lots to like here" according to PCBC. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Paired with "Iconic: A Photographic Tribute to Apple Innovation by Jonathan Zufi" I feel I've earned a credit in Beginner's Design. There is a lot to like here - rich background on Ive's design philosophy - insight into Apple's marketing approach - some cool technical background on unibody and so on. (Kindle readers -> pictures in back on book.)Weakness is repetition. Example - the number of times we are told design is driving engineering is somewhat mind numbing.
