DESCRIPTION:

“It’s been a quiet week in Lake Wobegon, my home town .” Lake Wobegon has been Garrison Keillor’s fictional home town—and America’s—for almost 40 years. Many of us have grown up with “the little town that time forgot and the decades cannot improve.” The Chatterbox Café, the Sidetrack Tap, the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Responsibility, the Bunsens and the Krebsbachs, the Lake Wobegon Whippets—these are places, people, and sports teams we know and love, thanks to Keillor’s ability to weave a story and tell it live.Never before collected, these expertly crafted tales are full of gentle humor, genuine emotion, and (more often than not) surprising insights into family, relationships, community, faith, and hope.

A Prairie Home Companion features wonderful guest stars and music, but from week to week what we really want to hear is Keillor relate his mythical news, which always sounds so personal and spontaneous. This collection features 18 humorous, insightful, and sometimes scatological examples.”      —AudioFile

Not at the height of his powers, but not bad Others have remarked about the tiresome inclusion of way too many flatulence jokes. They are right. Keillor is not at his best here. But, still, the story telling is vivid and engaging. The sequence of stories recounting the arrival of Pastor Liz was especially good. This will be of interest to those who already know and love Keillor's story telling. If one is new to him, however, earlier stories like Bruno The Fishing Dog and The Royal Family are better introductions to the Lake Woebegone universe.. "Disappointing" according to Middle-Aged Professor. Garrison Keillor has been a master storyteller and an American treasure for decades, but this collection of "Lake Wobegon" monologues is only a pale shadow of his previous recordings. There are occasional bright spots, such as "Tundra Swans," but most of these stories have neither the folk wisdom nor the wry humor that have been Keillor's trademarks. This collection relies too much upon the extension of previous material and upon Junior High School humor, including a puerile fascination with flatulence. Hopefully Keillor will rejuvenate his talent, otherwise I'd stick . Billy T. Lowe said Love it.. Keillor and The Prairie Home Companion Show is one of my all time favorites. I have been a fan since the mid 1980's. Love it.
