Good overview but you will need a lot more to have have hope of a successful application. No offense to the authors intended. Everything in this book, of substance, is available for free (and more current) at opm.gov - the US Government's own website that contains the background rules and regulations for USAJobs.com - which is the USG's only portal into Federal hiring below the Presidential Appointment level. Where the book really falls short is the limited to zero discussion of all the various "backdoor" programs that lead to SES appointments. In DCMA alone, there are at least three pathways. While the book is of good information and the searchable CD (which replicates the book) is . Superb resource on writing ECQ narratives Robert K. West I highly recommend this book for anyone that plans to apply for an SES position. It's the best resource I've seen on writing ECQ narratives! The examples clearly show how to use the Challenge, Context, Action, and Results (CCAR) format and how to address the leadership competencies in discussing your most significant accomplishments for the various ECQs. I've been so impressed by this book that I continually use it in a course I present on Developing and Writing Executive Core Qualification Statements.Keith WestExecutive Coach.
