The fast paced story is set in a world where wizards could easily be your next-door-neighbors or public servants. The paranormal is all perfectly normal—no more but also no less problematic than a multi-ethnic society with citizens from different cultures and religions.. One of the things that sets it aside from others is how "ordinary course" magic and paranormal is in the world created by Alesha Escobar. Since we are in an alternate world it makes sense, being just as logical as classic fantasy worlds where magic is routinely accepted (even if special). Sin Eater also has some pretty neat original concepts in it, such as the very nature of what sin eaters are and a very original explanation of how vampires are made.
