"Buy this for your smart children, or yourself" according to Henry Bethe. If for nothing else, buy this for the illustrations. Some of the best etchings I have ever seen. But the explanations of how trees work, why they are important, are both scientifically accurate and intelligible without much background.. Beautiful little book This is a beautiful little book - and beautifully written - with a lot of information packed into its small size. While many sentences are dense with scientific terms, there is a good glossary in the back which explains them; and I think this would be a very good book even for people without much science background, or for young people with an avid interest in plant biology.I realize that the size and format of the Wooden books are part of their charm; but it wo. "Lovely but small" according to E Peachey. This is a beautiful book. My only disappointment (my fault for not looking more closely at the description) is that it is small -- just 6" x 7".
