As a mystery, it works very well; as a romantic suspense, it works reasonably well. It just doesn't have. Mystery loves history said Historical(?) Thriller. It's been years since I lost my paperback copy of this book. It seems funny now to be reading it as a historical thriller the way I would read one of her Amelia Peabody stories. However, the story hasn't lost any of its punch. All the issues they projected about drug use plague us today. Carol is a likeable heroine and Tom Andres, the DEA agent is good; I liked him much better than her boyfriend Danny from the start.This is a book well worth re-reading..
