DESCRIPTION:

The other murders attributed to Collins never went to trial, with one exception, and soon became cold cases. With the benefit of 50 years of hindsight, hundreds of vintage newspaper articles, thousands of police reports, and countless interviews, Terror in Ypsilanti: John Norman Collins Unmasked tells the stories of the other victims, recreates the infamous trial that took Collins off the streets, and details Collins's time spent in prison. Between the summers of 1967 through 1969, before the term "serial killer" was coined, a predatory killer stalked the campuses of Eastern Michigan University and the University of Michigan seeking prey until he made the arrogant mistake of killing his last victim in the basement of his uncle's home. All-American boy John Norman Collins was arrested, tried, and convicted of the strangulation murder of Karen Sue Beineman. Terror in Ypsilanti compiles an array of physical and circumstantial evidence drawing an unmistakable portrait of the sadistic murderer who slaughtered these innocent young women.

I haven't read the Michigan Murders so I can't personally compare this book to that, but it's stated in some reviews here that Terror in Ypsilanti doesn't cover much more factual ground than the Michigan Murders. If that's the case, I would recommend reading the Michigan Murders instead because this book is extremely poorly-written. There were numerous passages that I had to re-. Read Both Books I was in high school in Wisconsin when these murders occur. I remember clearly hearing about them on the news. Since I am a fan of true crime, I decided I needed to read about the cases. I have now read both this book and The Michigan Murders by Edward Keyes published in 1976. I read TMM first and also reviewed it on Amazon. If you are interested in the story, I highly recommend. Brings back memories of a horrifying time in my childhood Mad Libs It is difficult to read, as I was a young teen when this happened in my neighborhood. A young woman from my high school was one of his victims. Reading it brought back all the terror I experienced at the time until he was caught. And even then we weren't sure it was over for years. It's a very detailed book, with many horrifying details that weren't publicly released at the time,
