DESCRIPTION:
All good dramatic writing hinges on people and their relationships, which serve to move the story forward and give it life, as well as an understanding of human motives -- why people act the way that they do. Using Egri's ABCs of premise, character, and conflict, The Art of Dramatic Writing is a direct, jargon-free approach to the problem of achieving truth in writing.. Learn the basic techniques every successful playwright knows Among the many "how-to" playwriting books that have appeared over the years, there have been few that attempt to analyze the mysteries of play construction. Using examples from eve
Lajos Egri (1888-1967) was born in Hungary and founded the Egri School of Writing in New York City in the 1930s. . In addition to writing books, he spent his life writing and directing plays in both the United States and Europe, as well as writing screenplays for the film industry
Egri, who formulated his thoughts about "a well-made play" during its heyday (the 1940s and '50s), places a premium on an exhaustive analysis of characters and discussion of their psychological motivations. Really gets to the core of what makes good fiction Amazon Customer I've read quite a few books on writing fiction and this was one of my favorites (my number one favorite being Story: Substance, Structure, Style and The Principles of Screenwriting). Egri does an amazing job breaking down how to make characters drive your story, and his principles are self-evident in that you'll immediately recognize them at work in all great stories that you've read and watched. Some of the key concepts he covers in this book are- How to create your story's PREMISE. SO many stories lack this and, as a result, feel emp. One Star Terrible, terrible printing. I'm returning this so I can buy another edition.. Kindle Edition Badly formatted The information in the book is worth reading, however, in the Kindle edition, there are many, many formatting errors. There are some sentences without beginnings and some without endings. There are a lot of words spelled incorrectly and paragraphs that seemingly just end in mid sentence, but actually continue in the next paragraph. Skip the Kindle and buy the print version.
