She never fails to give you a good read - I read some of her earlier works and then she fell off my radar when she was on a hiatus of sorts until I came across some of her books on a clearance table at a local bookstore - I bought one to catch up with her and was not disappointed, I then caught up the rest of the series with her Kindle editions. The only CON to her books is the higher than normal Kindle price - I wanted to finish the series and was glad I did BUT I feel she needs to get in line with her Kindle edition pricesSome have complained about her liberal views coming through the book - they are part of the character - I for one am. "Still, after all those years." according to John R.. Its Washowski. Its Chicago. She is a tough woman who is getting on in years (but aging slower than I am) she has some interesting friends some nasty relatives and two dogs. She gets in scrapes that would have given me PTSD way back when she was a chick we would watch waliking across the street. She is hard on cars and does not pine after guys very much if it conflicts with her job. Some day Paretsky will have a scene where she compares scars with a grizzled old warrior from the Attilla campaigns, like in Jaws.I love them.. V. I. Struggles and Prevails - Again! When you don't read Paretsky's books in order, you're almost grateful to experience the details first hand referred to in later books, in this case, Vic's relationship with her lover on the police force and the circumstances which led to their parting ways. I always appreciate Paretsky's humor, use of language, the female perspective of a not-so-traditional detective and the way she carefully constructs suspense. Really enjoyed Tunnel Vision!
